Calendar Until Aug 1, 2027

Description

Robotics Instructor Volunteer

Help Senior Adults Discover the Excitement of Robotics

Do you enjoy robotics, engineering, coding, or building things? Volunteer Garland is seeking a passionate volunteer to launch a robotics program for older adults at one of the City of Garland Senior Centers.

This is an exciting opportunity to introduce senior adults to the world of robotics through fun, hands-on learning. Whether your experience comes from education, engineering, FIRST Robotics, VEX, LEGO Robotics, or another robotics platform, your knowledge can inspire a new generation of makers.

Working alongside Senior Center staff, you will help design and teach a robotics program that fits the interests and abilities of participants. As the program grows, volunteers will also help organize a friendly robotics showcase or competition where participants can demonstrate the robots they have designed and built.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with Senior Center staff to develop a beginner-friendly robotics program.
  • Teach robotics concepts through engaging, hands-on activities.
  • Help participants build, test, and improve robotic projects.
  • Encourage teamwork, creativity, and problem solving.
  • Assist with planning and facilitating a robotics showcase or competition.
  • Foster a welcoming and supportive learning environment for older adults.

Ideal Volunteer

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience with robotics, engineering, programming, electronics, or STEM education.
  • Enjoys teaching and mentoring others.
  • Can explain technical concepts in a simple and encouraging way.
  • Is patient, dependable, and enthusiastic.
  • Works well with older adults and enjoys helping others learn new skills.

Requirements

  • Complete Volunteer Garland registration.
  • Successfully pass a City of Garland background check.
  • Attend volunteer orientation, if required.
  • Coordinate schedules and curriculum with Senior Center staff.
  • Commit to teaching classes on a recurring basis as mutually agreed upon.

Benefits

  • Inspire lifelong learning.
  • Help reduce technology barriers for older adults.
  • Share your passion for STEM with your community.
  • Build meaningful relationships while making a lasting impact.
  • Earn volunteer service hours and recognition through Volunteer Garland.

Help prove that curiosity has no age limit. Join us in bringing robotics to Garland's senior adults.
