Help Create a Safe Space After School

The Garland Public Library is seeking dependable adult volunteers to support our after-school program for tweens and teens. This program provides a safe, welcoming place where youth can complete homework, participate in activities, and connect with positive adult role models.

If you enjoy working with middle and high school students and can provide calm, consistent support, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

  • Support and supervise youth alongside library staff

  • Assist with games, crafts, and activities

  • Offer light homework encouragement (not formal tutoring)

  • Model respectful behavior and positive communication

  • Help with setup, cleanup, and snack distribution

  • Report any concerns directly to staff

Volunteers do not independently supervise minors and always work under staff direction.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Age 18+

  • Patient, dependable, and comfortable with teens

  • Strong communicator with a positive presence

  • Able to commit consistently during the school year

Experience in education, youth programs, or libraries is helpful but not required.

Important Details

  • Weekday afternoon availability required

  • Background check required before placement

  • Training provided

  • Service is supervised by library staff at all times

Consistency is critical. Youth programs thrive when volunteers show up reliably.
