Description

Garland Police Department SWAT Training Role Players

Organization: Garland Police Department SWAT Team + Volunteer Garland

About the Opportunity:
The Garland Police Department SWAT Team is seeking volunteer role players to assist with emergency response training scenarios during SWAT Week.

These realistic training exercises help officers and emergency personnel prepare for high-stress critical incidents in a controlled training environment. Volunteers play an important role in helping first responders train effectively and safely.

Volunteer Role Options:
Participants may assist as:

  • Civilians/bystanders during active shooter simulations
  • Individuals hiding or evacuating during training scenarios
  • Vehicle scenario participants
  • Optional “bad guy” role for select vehicle training scenarios

No acting experience is required. Garland PD staff will provide instructions and guidance throughout the event.

Date:
Thursday, June 4, 2026

Volunteer Time Windows:

Vehicle Assault / Takedown Scenarios

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
(1–4 volunteers needed)

Active Shooter Scenario Training

5:30 PM – 10:00 PM
(5–12 volunteers needed)

Volunteers may sign up for one or both time periods.

Important Information:

  • This is a simulated law enforcement training exercise in a controlled environment.

  • Some scenarios may include loud noises, tactical equipment, emergency response activity, and simulated injuries/incidents.

  • All volunteers must be comfortable participating in realistic emergency response simulations.

  • Participants should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.

  • Volunteers participating in “bad guy” vehicle scenarios MUST wear heavier layered clothing that can safely absorb marking/training rounds. Participants may be struck by paint/marking rounds during training exercises. The impact hurts. Layered clothing is strongly recommended so outer layers can be removed or changed between scenarios.

  • Protective masks/helmets will be provided when necessary.

  • Participants should be comfortable walking, using stairs, and getting up/down from the ground.

  • All volunteers will be required to wear Volunteer Garland safety vests during the event. Safety vests will be provided at check-in and must remain visible throughout participation.

  • All participants must be willing to undergo a background check if requested by Garland Police Department.

  • Due to security concerns, photography or social media use is NOT allowed.

  • Pizza and drinks will be provided for volunteers.

Age Requirements:

  • Ages 18+ preferred

  • Responsible high school students (16+)

Location Information:
Due to the nature of the training, location, and reporting instructions will be provided directly to approved volunteers prior to the event.

Volunteer Garland Notes:
Volunteer Garland staff will assist with volunteer coordination, check-in, and staging throughout the event.

This opportunity provides a unique chance to support public safety training and help Garland first responders prepare for real-world emergency situations.
