About the Event:
Join us for a special community celebration honoring the designation of a Texas Historical Marker for “The Flats,” a historic Black residential, commercial, and educational community that once thrived in downtown Garland during the early 20th century.
This free, public event will feature a live re-enactment of a scene from the musical drama “The Flats: Cradle of a Community,” performed by the original cast, followed by the official marker presentation and dedication.
Volunteer Roles:
Volunteers will assist with:
- Greeting guests and handing out printed programs
- Helping with light setup (props/materials)
- Distributing complimentary Blue Bell ice cream after the performance
This is primarily an indoor event, with a possible short outdoor portion at the marker site.
