Volunteers will visit the center once per month to provide basic technology guidance to older adults in a supportive group setting. Sessions may include short lessons followed by one-on-one assistance.

Topics may include:

Understanding WiFi and internet basics

What is a QR code and how to use it

Smartphone settings and features

Sending photos and text messages

Video calling (FaceTime / Zoom)

Avoiding online scams and phishing

Downloading and using apps

Volunteers do not repair devices or access financial accounts. Seniors will enter their own passwords and maintain control of their personal information at all times.

Qualifications:

Age 18 or older

Successful completion of City background check

Basic comfort with smartphones and tablets

Strong communication skills and patience

Ability to explain technology in simple, clear language

Training and session guidelines will be provided.

Help Older Adults Stay Strong, Active, and Independent

Do you have a passion for fitness and helping others live healthier lives? The Garland Senior Center is looking for a Certified Personal Trainer or Group Fitness Instructor to serve as a substitute instructor for our popular Fit 2 Live class when our regular instructor is unavailable.

This isn't just another exercise class. Fit 2 Live has become one of our most valued wellness programs, helping older adults build strength, improve balance, increase flexibility, boost cardiovascular health, and maintain the independence they need to continue enjoying life. Our participants are dedicated, enthusiastic, and committed to staying healthy, and we need qualified volunteers who can confidently step in to maintain the high quality they expect.

What You'll Do Lead a one hour group fitness class for active older adults. Guide participants through strength training using free weights. Incorporate flexibility exercises and targeted yoga stretches. Lead low impact, high intensity interval training (HIIT) appropriate for older adults. Promote proper form, safety, and injury prevention. Create an encouraging, energetic, and welcoming environment for participants. Class Information

We're Looking For Someone Who Holds a current Personal Trainer or Group Fitness certification (ACE, NASM, ACSM, ISSA, AFAA, or equivalent). Has experience leading group fitness classes. Understands safe exercise practices for active older adults. Can confidently modify exercises for varying fitness levels. Is dependable, energetic, and enjoys encouraging others. Requirements Register as a Volunteer Garland volunteer. Successfully complete a City background check. Coordinate availability with Senior Center staff. This is an exciting opportunity to introduce senior adults to the world of robotics through fun, hands-on learning. Whether your experience comes from education, engineering, FIRST Robotics, VEX, LEGO Robotics, or another robotics platform, your knowledge can inspire a new generation of makers.

Working alongside Senior Center staff, you will help design and teach a robotics program that fits the interests and abilities of participants. As the program grows, volunteers will also help organize a friendly robotics showcase or competition where participants can demonstrate the robots they have designed and built.

What You'll Do Collaborate with Senior Center staff to develop a beginner-friendly robotics program. Teach robotics concepts through engaging, hands-on activities. Help participants build, test, and improve robotic projects. Encourage teamwork, creativity, and problem solving. Assist with planning and facilitating a robotics showcase or competition. If you have a reliable vehicle and a little time to give, you can play an important role in keeping one of our most popular programs running.

What You'll Do Pick up donated bakery items and occasional grocery products from WINCO Foods. Transport donations safely to the Garland Senior Center. Help ensure donations are delivered in a timely manner for upcoming BINGO events. Coordinate pickup days with Senior Center staff and fellow volunteers. Schedule Flexible scheduling. Pickups are needed seven days a week, but volunteers can serve on days that fit their availability. Great opportunity for individuals looking for a recurring volunteer role. We're Looking For Someone Who Has a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle. Is dependable and punctual. Can safely transport donated food items.
