Volunteer Garland is building a Chainsaw Response Team, a group of skilled and safety conscious volunteers who can assist residents with fallen trees or large limbs following storms or unexpected situations.

Many of these requests come from older adults, individuals with limited physical capacity, or households facing financial challenges. These are neighbors who may not have the resources or ability to address the issue on their own. Your support can make an immediate and meaningful difference.

What This Role Involves Assisting with cutting and removing fallen trees or large limbs Helping make properties safe and accessible again Responding to occasional, short notice requests based on your availability

Most projects are short term and are typically completed within a week. Requests are coordinated based on urgency and volunteer availability.

Important Notes Volunteers must provide their own equipment, including chainsaws and safety gear Signing up does not create an obligation to respond to every request Participation simply means you are willing to be contacted when a need arises Safety, proper training, and responsible equipment use are expected What Happens After Tree Removal

In most cases, a separate volunteer group will assist with debris cleanup and hauling, typically the following Saturday. Chainsaw team members are welcome, but not required, to participate in these follow up efforts.

Looking Ahead

This initiative has the potential to grow into a broader community resource. Future opportunities may include hosting hands on trainings for residents, supporting storm preparedness efforts, and developing a community based volunteer disaster response team.

Volunteer Garland is expanding its Code Cares initiative by building a network of local businesses and contractors who are willing to assist with two of the most common property needs in Garland:

Fence repair and replacement Tree trimming and limb removal

These projects often support older residents, individuals with limited physical capacity, or households facing financial hardship. With the right support, these properties can be restored quickly, improving safety and overall neighborhood conditions.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking:

Fence companies and general contractors Tree service professionals Skilled trades professionals

Partners may choose to:

Donate full services for select projects Offer discounted services for approved residents Participate in sponsored or shared community projects Join an on-call list for occasional opportunities

Participation is flexible and based entirely on your availability.

CODE CARES - Help a Neighbor with Lawn Care

We are looking for volunteers to help Garland residents with basic lawn mowing and light yard care. This effort supports residents who may be unable to maintain their yards due to age, disability, or temporary hardship.

Volunteers will provide simple lawn care services that help residents stay safe, maintain their homes, and remain in compliance with City codes while showing kindness where it matters most.

This project is conducted in partnership with Garland Code Compliance.

Spring and Early Summer 2026
Volunteers may sign up now. Scheduling will be coordinated individually.

Time Commitment
Flexible
Volunteers may help one time or choose to assist again if they wish. There is no requirement to commit to the entire season.

Various residential locations across Garland
Addresses will be shared after sign-up.

Project Description

Volunteers will help residents by providing light lawn care. This may include mowing lawns, light trimming or edging, bagging or stacking grass clippings, and basic yard cleanup. This project does not include heavy landscaping or construction work.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers must provide their own lawn mower, trimmer, basic yard tools, work gloves, and eye protection. Volunteers are also responsible for their own transportation to and from the service location. Volunteers may not enter the homes or do remodeling work through the program for safety reasons. 

Please note that the City of Garland does not provide lawn equipment for this project.

The City of Garland will provide project coordination and resident matching, instructions and expectations before each assignment.
